RAF Typhoon jets have operated alongside France's air force in a joint strike targeting an hidden munitions depot in Syria used by the Daesh militant organization, according to the UK's MoD.
The location, identified by intelligence, was believed to be containing munitions and bombs, the statement said, and was situated in hills just north of the historic site of Palmyra in Syria's central region.
"Our fighter planes used laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to strike a several approach shafts leading to the site... initial indications indicate the strike was effective," the MoD said.
There was no indication of any civilian impact in the strike conducted Saturday night and each participating jet made a safe return, the ministry further stated.
The Typhoon FGR4s were assisted by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.

RAF aircraft have performed surveillance missions over Syria to "deter any attempted comeback" of Islamic State subsequent to its routing at the Baghuz confrontation in the year 2019, the ministry said.
